Lunette celebrates menstruators every day of the year, so when International Women’s Day comes around, we put on our serious period party pants. Which are white, by the way.
With one of our biggest missions being to make the world a better place by giving back and creating conversation about the things we want to see change, it only made sense to support a cause on this beautiful day. But you don’t have to identify as a woman to get in on the fun. We’re celebrating everyone in our Lunette family - females, the female-minded, transgender, cisgender, future, former and current girls and women from around the world.
Here’s how you can get involved. When you purchase a Lunette Menstrual Cup through our online store from March 8th through 10th, we’ll donate a cup with our partner, FIDA International, to their menstrual health management project in East Africa.
So what is menstrual health management anyways?
Great question! Menstrual health management is a basic human right. Period.
Menstruation is a normal biological process, but one that still gets treated as something that is negative, shameful or dirty in some cultures. With little knowledge or open conversation taking place in many women and girls’ lives, it’s difficult for them to know what’s happening to their bodies when menstruation begins. Not to mention their inadequate sanitation infrastructure or the fact that they have little to no access to sustainable period products, leaving them to find items such as newspaper, cloth and even cow dung to get by. These insufficient menstrual solutions oftentimes find many menstruators isolated from their family, friends and communities.
Partnering with Lunette since 2017, FIDA is a Finnish, faith-based organization that focuses on development and humanitarian aid. With a goal of helping one million young girls live with dignity, FIDA International provides menstrual cups, reproductive and sexual health education to young people and those in need within the community. These efforts are helping to break long-standing taboos and create change.
While we know there is still much to be done when it comes to women’s rights and equality, we believe that positive change is possible and we’re working hard to prove it - one cup at a time.
